Colin Campbell, Lord Clyde (1792-1863)
Field Marshal Campbell is seen here in civilian dress.
Colin Campbell was born as Colin Macliver, and changed his name to his mother’s maiden name Campbell when he entered the Army. Through his mother he was related to Robert Coningham, whose mother was Elizabeth Campbell. Colin was very fond of James Fitzjames, who he called “Jamie”.

This carte de visite was auctioned as ‘Disderi Carte de Visite – Victorian Man’, the seller evidently not knowing who it was which was lucky for me price-wise.
